This website is for an economic development organization; it helps businesses from outside the area understand how to get established in the region and gives them all the information they need to understand how to get what they need and what the costs are. The site will be very information-rich with over 100 pages of content, but it will have to be easy to navigate (keeping any navigation lists under 7-10 items) so the information isn't overwhelming.
The primary goal of the website is to attract investment from businesses outside the area; they will want to get a good understanding and learn if it's an area they would like to be in. A secondary goal is to help businesses within the region learn any additional information they don't know yet.
The look should be appealing and 'trustworthy' so businesses who are considering several different areas to invest in will be attracted to learn more about this region. We want an appearance that's somewhat modern and sophisticated, but it has to keep a strong element of reliability. Many visitors to the website will be from far away and not know very much about the region so we want to highlight important facts up front and then let them click through for more details.
- Homepage - this should be an attractive landing page that communicates a few main points (essential information/news) through a slideshow/rotating banner - combining photos with a title and short description - plus a few expanded stories (around 4, with a title and a paragraph of text) separate from the slideshow. It will also have navigation to direct the users to the various content sections (the main navigation bar will show only one level but will have drop-down menus to show subsections). The slideshow should have play/pause, previous, and next links/buttons.
Standard features shared with other pages will include the navigation bar, search tool, text size increase/decrease options, contact information, and essential links (maybe in the footer). Most of the text apart from the logo should be in standard web fonts so it can be modified.
The initial navigation menu items will be "World Class Assets", "Investor Pathways", "Stats and Facts", and "Our Communities".
We would also like 1-2 badges/banners/buttons not related to the main navigation titled "Explore the Corridor" and "Why Invest Here?".
- Content page - this will be a generic content page applied anywhere else in the site; it should have a small header/banner area that doens't push down the rest of the content, navigation (one main navigation bar that will always be visible with dropdowns as on the homepage, a sub-menu for the current section (separate from the main navigation bar), a small set of related links, and other standard elements (such as the footer). Outside of the homepage we'll need to add print/pdf/email links to all pages.
Within the content area we'll need two levels of headings, a set of tabs, a bullet list, some extended text (5+ paragraphs), a small table, a small contact form, and a highlighted quote.
