My name is Jenna Jacques and I am the Business Development Manager for my family business called Top Cat Catering. My mother Jennifer (Jenny) is our Managing Director, our ‘Top Cat’. She has operated this business for over thirty years all over Sydney, Australia. The name ‘Top Cat’ came from my dad who at the time the business was created remembered Top Cat as his favourite TV cartoon. Whilst the business found its footing within catering, it developed over many years to be a one-stop-shop for all things events. What we say to people today is that ‘we’re a lot more than just caterers’. My brother is a trained Patisserie Chef and provides all our Wedding couples with their Wedding Cake. I am a Wedding Stylist by trade so we offer décor styling services; all of this on top of our primary service: catering. We coordinate and cater for weddings, elegant cocktail parties, day conferences, gala dinners, birthdays, christenings, bah mitzvahs and more. We operate our catering business exclusively at three venues. Our premier venue is called Horizons and is located at South Maroubra. This is our new venue that we have only in the last couple of months taken on and we now market Horizons as our premium beachside venue, perfect for Weddings. Our boutique beachside venue is the Clovelly Beach Venue. We have operated Top Cat from this venue for approximately 15 years and will be finishing our tenure at this venue in May 2014. However, at this point in time we offer our clients either venue, depending on their expected numbers and function type. Horizons can host up to 260 guests seated or 350 guests cocktail style, whilst Clovelly (where I chose to have my own wedding) hosts 80 guests seated or 160 guests cocktail style. Our third venue is called the Inglis Complex and it is home to the largest horse auctions in the world. We run the food and beverage areas (e.g. coffee, bar, restaurant, VIP marquee, snack bar etc) during their sales which can attract up to 5000 people per day. The Inglis Complex has a variety of different venues, each with a historical feel. The Newmarket Stables within ‘Inglis’ was voted most unique venue in NSW only a couple of years ago. We offer the Inglis venues as an alternate option to our corporate clients where the style of venue is suitable to the function. Outside of our three venues we cater at homes, on boats and in city offices. We want a new website design (landing page and a template for other sections of the website). We already have a website developer on-hand ready to develop our website but need help with where to take the design.
Last year we had the Top Cat logo redesigned. We have been constrained by the name ‘Top Cat’ in-that it doesn’t sound like a business that specialises in weddings. The logo is cryptic and clever and we want this for our website style. Our two beachside venues attract the clientele to us and we win them over with our experience and vivacious personalities. Our current website pictures mainly our Clovelly venue but we want to completely redesign our website, focusing more on Horizons, with other venues on offer. The corporate catering side to our business would excel with simple black and white imagery to tie in our logo, but the wedding side to our business is highlighted by the blue ocean, that which attracts our clientele. We have a lot of photos but when we pick out our favourite 50-odd, they aren't cohesive. Each photographer has a different style and thus so do our photos. We hired a photographer to come and take photos at Horizons with the wedding couple and he mentioned that our website should be the tones of the blue ocean. We are really unsure what this would do to our Top Cat image.

Page One: Landing Page We want a landing page to direct our prospective clients to navigate to an area of suited to their enquiry – e.g. Weddings (Venues, Menus, Contact Us) or Corporate (Conferences, Birthdays, Contact Us). Our underlying aim is to be a bit different. We are looking for a wow factor, even from the very first page. We are unsure however if this is going to be achieved through simplicity or complex design. We want a small area on the landing page for the client login area of our website, and perhaps a 'special events' type area (we do Melbourne Cup days etc). We want to find the balance between showcasing our food, our weddings, our venues and our corporate abilities. We will be building a client login area where our brides and grooms can submit/edit information relating to their function through our website. We understand that the text from the landing page is what helps with google rankings, which we certainly want. But if we like a minimal design for the landing page is there a way we can still rank well? Page Two: Wedding Template Design We have a lot of packages. Each package has a different menu and a different price. We have three cocktail packages, two formal sit-down (aka banquet) packages and two buffet packages. We also have three beverage packages, two ceremony packages etc. Our wedding clientele aren't too dissimilar in taste - they love the beach, they're aged 26 to 38 and they love good, good company and good wine. Brides like photos and testimonials. Page Three: Corporate Template Design We have less corporate than wedding packages but still around 8 to 12. We don't want people holding birthday parties to se corporate and think it doesn't apply to them, but we've had clients in the past turn away with the all wedding look we have portrayed on our previous websites. This is why we feel its best to divide the feel of either side of the website.
Was vermieden werden soll
We are unsure. What we should explain though is that brides are turned away by corporate looking images and corporate clients (e.g. people having birthday parties or conferences) are quick to turn away with what they perceive to be a wedding venue. This is why we think the view at our venues need to be the hero.
The website developer we have on-board to create our website originally attempted to design it for us. Whilst we got to a look we liked, we weren't sure if it was what we needed to win over our clients. I am happy to send the landing page proof through but felt it may dictate where your design will head and a blank canvas may be the place to start.
