We are a small oil & gas consulting firm based in West Texas. Our primary business is negotiating with landowners for the rights to drill for oil & gas on their land. We also put together packages to raise money for oil & gas exploration and associated ventures.
We are young and energetic, competing in a marketplace full of old established/stale companies and huge publicly traded conglomerates.

The main use of these materials will be to send offers and other communications to individuals and companies. The individuals will range in age from 20 - 90+ and the companies will range from two person partnerships to conglomerates like Chevron and Exxon.
Additionally, these materials will be used to solicit business from other oil & gas exploration companies. The people making these decisions are typically middle aged. I often find that it benefits me when they know that I am young but experienced.
The main goal is to appear young and energetic but professional. The people seeing these materials will cover the entire range of adult ages.
I don't want the letter head to take away from the content of the letter, just to convey professionalism. Ideally, one would not be able to guess the size of our company simply by looking at these materials.
In the past I have used Forrest/Hunter green and black in my fonts, but I'm open to other color schemes. Just nothing overly feminine (think pink & lavender) and I'd like to avoid red.
I'm certainly open to other ideas, but I have imagined a stylized letter "H" or letters "HP" that could standalone as logo (of course being careful to differentiate ourselves since there is already a famous "HP").
