While, technically, this is a brochure project, it is also unique in that we feel like we have pretty strong design concepts for both the inside and outside but we aren’t quite capable of finishing/executing them in the way we’d like.
The brochure is a gatefold design and as our exterior design indicates it will open from the dark brown front and back cover to the lighter tan panels with large display type. Our concept is that when the viewer opens the folds the final time the background will be white with the text and the accompanying images placed in clusters (see attached "tri-fold jpeg" for an example). We'd like to emphasize that the front cover and the inside gate fold flaps are very monochromatic (brown and then tan) so we believe the inside design needs to be very vibrant in terms of color. Instead of thinking in terms of columns of text with images we’d like the inside to feel as though it done without a grid and had the feeling of being more random (playful even). Essentially there are four “sections”
1. Depth of tradition…
2. Spiritual Depth
3. Living and working deeply
4. Go Deeper with Us
There’s also a set of QUOTES (attached) that should be peppered throughout the design. In one sense we want to bring readers through all four of these sections and have them end with the Call to Action (which is section 4) but we don’t want it to feel linear in the conventional sense. We also don’t want it to feel too busy in terms of type/design. We are willing to cut some copy for the final design. For lack of a great example, if you’ve ever seen a “Prezi” presentation the “canvas” is essentially white and the images and text seem clustered somewhat randomly and are zoomed in on and then moved away from. Obviously readers can’t zoom in and out like those presentations but we like the feel of the groupings of images and text (and the use of interesting typography) being another hook to draw readers into our ideas.
We have attached many of the files that we have been using as design keys. You can also visit http://dev.carmelites.net to see the look of the overall web effort. Copy Text is included in a .psd file called Copy Text. The Current front cover design file is named: Gate Fold Mock Front.psd (this is the front cover of the brochure, you design the back/inside!)
Final files should be formatted according to the provided templates at at least 300 dpi
