The aesthetic of current job-related sites and products is awful. Graphics are sterile, complicated, unimaginative, strictly business, and uninspiring. We want to bring a clean, modern, sophisticated, stylish, uplifting design sense to this lackluster landscape.
THE TACKLEBOX NAME: We like that the name is action-oriented. To "tackle" something means you'll get it done. It has an optimistic tone, suggesting you'll get through it and succeed. Job searching is often overwhelming and disheartening, but Tacklebox makes this process easier, more enjoyable, and faster.
We like "box" because it stores and organizes things. A common tacklebox has specific sections for just the right components, makes it easy to find what you're looking for or see what's still needed, and prepares you for the task at hand.
Tacklebox is literally your box of tools to tackle the job search.
TO AVOID: A literal tacklebox. Anything with fish or hooks. Anything that looks too job-ish, such as a briefcase or suit/tie (don't send us this: http://logopond.com/gallery/detail/193450). if we were to one day organize things beyond your job search - we don't want to be locked in by anything too specific at this point. A magnifying glass for the 'search' part: we're not a search engine for jobs, and we want to focus more on the progress and success of a search rather than aimlessly looking forever without finding. Football players. Avoid abbreviations TB (tuberculosis) and TX (Texas), but open to TBX, TKB, TKBX, TKX or other ideas.
INSTEAD: Some early leaders are focusing on productivity, organization, success. Streamlining lots of complex things, simplifying an arduous process. Organizing, prioritizing, making better decisions, getting ahead. Clarity. Control, empowerment. Sifting out what matters, finding signal in the noise. Funneling, focusing. There are obvious executions here, like a paperclip, but push yourself beyond that.
FORMATS: Consider that if a logo is made, it should represent well as an app icon, favicon, etc. A logo isn't necessary - wordmarks are equally desired and we'd like to see more as most initial submissions focused on a graphic.
COLORS: We will have three priority ranking colors throughout our site (high, medium, low), so the logo may be a good place to introduce them and we'd like to see more submissions playing on color over shape. Just be sure to include a greyscale version as well, please. The Pinterest page is just to indicate general taste, you can play with them.
BOXES: If you want to go the box route, here are some we like, along with some of our own sketches trying to do things with the T in Tacklebox.
