Alboum & Associates (or just "Alboum" - maybe that lends itself to better design?)
I started in January 2004, and business has been amazing. It's still a one-person shop, but in 2010, I am going to be hiring people because I want to take a vacation sans Blackberry!!! (I'm not kidding.)
Alboum & Associates is a full-service translation agency. We help for-profits and non-profits market their products, services, and ideologies to non-English speaking audiences in this country and abroad.
Our company culture rests on five bases:
1. Flexibility – We roll with the punches. We don’t pull any.
2. Accountability – We don’t make promises we can’t keep.
3. Quality – We don’t make sacrifices for this – our reputation depends on our product.
4. Friendliness – We view our clients as our partners and colleagues and our communication reflects that
5. Passion – We love what we do and we believe in the underlying reasons for doing it
When people think of Alboum & Associates, what they’re going to think of is not just 1-5 above, but also “This is a company that’s going to work with me to get the job done.” We’re not just your vendors, we’re your partners, and we’re happy when you’re happy.
We do our best work with mission-driven organizations. We provide lots and lots of translation for the international arm of a very powerful anti-tobacco group, but also do tons of work for a local school system that translates everything in Spanish, Arabic and Amharic (and sometimes Urdu). Of course, we won't turn down a law firm or an office where everyone wears suits and heels to work, but in general, that's not our focus.
Please look at http://www.alboum.com. We used an established Atlanta-based design firm for this website about 3 years ago. It's not bad, but I think that at the time, we designed the website to cater to what we thought our clients would want to see (and the copy was written in that manner). Now that I've been working with a (great) coach, I've come to realize that I want people to work with us because they *get* us. We can't be all things to all people. And we're *not* a cookie-cutter, "corporate blue" website.
We'll start off with the logo. The current one, which tries to replicate the way I sign my last name, was done by a graphic designer. But I've had lots of people I know tell me that it's problematic (for various reasons).
So I want a logo that reflects the fact that we're a cool company that will do whatever it takes to get the job done, we'll be super friendly about it, and you'll want to tell all your friends about us. And the fact that the owner of the company is a game show champeon. Seriously. (It's a great marketing tool.)
I'm not beholden to any color scheme per se, since we'll be redoing the website, too, but I want something that's going to work well on business cards, letterhead, etc. I want *personality*, but it's still gotta be professional, just like the rest of the website is going to be when we redo it, too.
I'll leave the rest to you!
