Port Washington WI Farmers Market Logo Refresh
Port Washington is a small city in Wisconsin north of Milwaukee located on Lake Michigan…historic cream city brick buildings, classic Main Street America feel. It has one of the best harbors on Lake Michigan and large expansive green spaces overlooking the marina and harbor. The city simply has a beautiful setting for a vibrant farmers market.
We are in the process of improving all elements of our market. This logo refresh is one. I’ve included a branding report done by the PW Main Street organization which I will reference several times. It gives you an overall feel of how they are current marketing the city visually.
We will be holding a committee meeting Monday, February 9th at noon central standard time. Any work that could be done by then for assessment would be helpful. Thanks.
Important Pages in Branding Report
1. Page 4 – Current logo for PW Farmers Market, color palette array, examples of what they are currently using for events. Most of those need improvement, but the Christmas on the Corner design is acceptable and has the more modern feel we are trying to attain.
2. Page 8 – Street Banners. PW is a community that embraces street banners; a natural extension of our branding work with this logo will be to incorporate this design into street banners that we can hang on street lamps surrounding the market.
Objectives for the logo design:
Stay true to some of the general design elements of the city’s branding strategy, however the clip art centerpiece should be completely redesigned.
a. Color palette should be consistent (page 4).
b. Framing around imagery should/could be used but is open to re-design. The rectangular shape could be changed to a circular design. The depth and design of the frame could be changed (page 4).
c. Refresh the visual image for the Farmers Market. Clip art should be removed and not used. We’re looking for a retro/modern design...a current vibe for a fresh and innovative market (page 4).
d. Any images of produce or vegetables should be appropriate to the region. In the current clip art, it has oranges and grapes, two fruits not naturally associated with being grown in Wisconsin. Be consistent with regional products. Examples might include squash, zucchini, cucumber, tomatoes, apples, corn on the cob, sunflowers, etc. Other appropriate images may be introduced into the design…a basket, a farm cart, etc. (page 4).
e. Limit the design of the logo to 5 colors.
f. The logo will be used for web media, print media, T-shirts and large format printing. Please make sure you have a scalable vector drawing for large format usage.

c. Volunteer edition…traditional logo with the word volunteer incorporated for shirt design.
