CheckedTwice.com is web service that helps families and other groups organize the celebration of gift-giving holidays like Christmas. At its heart, CheckedTwice is an online gift registry designed for groups. Unlike Amazon Wishlists or the many online wedding registries, CheckedTwice allows you to go to one place and see the wishlists of everyone involved in the holiday.
Christmas is a great example. At Christmas, everybody in the family gives a little gift to everyone else. CheckedTwice sets up an occasion portal where you see a list of names for everyone in your family. Click on a name, and you see his or her wish list. From there you can claim gifts, add surprise gifts, or add gift ideas.
We hope you’ll check out our site. We’ve attached several screen shots that will give you an idea of how it works.
The site is great for geographically dispersed groups such as larger families (e.g. the addition of grandchildren, in-laws) that have settled in different areas and may not be heading to the mall all at once. Although the design must be acceptable to all ages, from grandchildren to grandparents, we initially will market to, and build our customer base on two specific groups:
1) students who have moved away from home, and
2) young parents who are geographically separated from grandparents.
We see our adopters as tech-savvy consumers with a specific need for our platform. We need a logo and design elements that speak to them.
Although our name makes reference to the Christmas song, we DO NOT want further references to Christmas on the site. No Santa Claus, no ‘naughty or nice,’ no winter theme. Again, we hope that the design is acceptable to all faiths and creeds.
Designs that reference other non-Christmas aspects of the name are acceptable, e.g. the accuracy implied by checking something twice, a list or wish list.
If you look at the screenshots, you’ll see that the look of the site is currently quite plain. A successful design submission will also include recommendations for integrating your logo with the existing site using simple changes, e.g. fonts, text colors, backgrounds for title bar and different panes.
We’re also interested in creating a new home/sign-in page for our site. We hope to work directly with the winning designer to quickly redesign those areas.
The winning design will be:
- Describable
- Memorable
- Effective without color (or including a separate version)
- Scalable, or including a scalable portion
