Green Camps is a national, nonprofit organization that helps camps become more environmentally sustainable (“go green”). Our primary audience is all camps, ranging from traditional summer youth camps to rural special needs camps to urban adult day camps. Our secondary audience is the campers who attend these camps.
We help camps make green improvements to their facilities and teach them how to operate sustainably. We also empower camp professionals to engage campers through environmental education programming and sustainable living activities, using real-life examples of green solutions.
We provide tools to camps to make decisions about things like renewable energy (such as solar panels), educational materials to help camp staff talk about topics like food growing and composting, trainings to empower camp staff to engage young people in the environmental movement, and marketing support to raise awareness of the need for sustainable action within the camp community and beyond.
We are the leaders of the sustainable camps movement. Our core 'products' are an online knowledge base of environmental resources to help camps implement green action; educational activities and curriculum; an online forum where camps can support one another in taking action as well as get support from Green Camps; a national certification program to recognize Green Camps that have implemented good practices; consulting services that include camp environmental audits/assessments; and sale of sustainable products and services like LED lightbulbs and solar energy evaluations.
