We are a Presbyterian Church located on a scenic NW university campus in a pine forest setting. We serve not only the university but also the surrounding community. We are unique in that we emphasize making disciples over the need for organizational, denominational, or institutional structures. Our mission is to "be and make disciples of Jesus Christ" through relationships (primarily in the small group setting). We have 3 regular services during the school year, two contemporary services (in a simple, more natural setting with lots of windows) as well as one small traditional service (held in a sanctuary with a pipe organ and stain-glass windows). During the summer we add a worship service on Wednesday since a large part of our congregation enjoys the outdoors, typical of Pacific NW residents. We have over 47 small groups which help with personal spiritual growth and outreach. We participate in multiple missionary opportunities. In addition, we also run a prestigious preschool/PreKind school and a full-time daycare for working parents. We have three pastors, one main pastor, one for spiritual formation, and a third for Families, youth and children.
Although our website is not currently a good reflection of who we are, the content may be helpful (we’ll be redesigning the website as part of this relaunch project). You may find us at http://www.whitpres.org.

Our church is open to all people and includes children through seniors, but we do have a large number of young families and college students who come to our two very distinct contemporary and traditional services. Our church members have very traditional families, are extremely educated, and are concerned about their spiritual growth.
Studies show that our surrounding community prefers a very contemporary church (including worship style, music, and even architecture). People in our area also value recreation and education. Overall, the preference for historic Christian religious affiliations is very low when compared to national averages. The area can be described as somewhat non-traditional due to the below average presence of married persons and two-parent families.
Through this logo we hope to communicate our emphasis of making disciples through large & small groups in print and web.
We are in the process of realigning the written/printed/online look and feel with the actual culture so there is great freedom in the design. We'd like our new logo to be contemporary (yet not readily dated), simple with clean lines that communicate a sense of community and people growing into Christ.
It needs to take into consideration basic rules for a successful logo (although most printing will be done in-house so color limitations are not a pressing factor). It will be used in various sizes and thus must be easy to identify.
Some suggestions: In our quest so far we have been drawn to logos that have a cross as part of the logo, but there may be other symbols that we would consider to communicate our Christian foundation. Also, our location in a pine forest setting may provide some possible directions for a logo, particularly if a "growing tree" or "growing forest" could be visually tied to "growing spiritually" into Christ. We are, however, open to a variety of directions so this is not a requirement.
We plan to use cloversites.com for our web provider. Many of their sample sites will give you a feel for the style we are going for.
