UPDATED INFO: As we continue to process the submissions and talk more about the message we would like our logo/graphic to convey, we would like to see the incorporation of logos that convey a missional nature and/or a relational nature. Regarding "missional," what we mean is justice, love, advocacy, helping others, working in our community and the world, engaging others, creating something together. Regarding "relational," we mean connecting with others, gathering with others, working together, supporting each other, encouraging each other...
Missional word pictures: hands, feet, something that conveys the process of creation or construction
Relational word pictures: path, trail, journey, well
We are looking for a set of logos. One for the church (Polson United Methodist Church) and one for our Mission Team, called Mission Partners. There is the potential of ongoing work for the winning designer.
The logos should be compatible with one another.
They should work in color and in black / white.
Target: people that do not currently attend church, young adults, young families. Should be welcoming, perhaps a "grunge" or modern look and not have the traditional church-y feel. Should fit well with our website: http://www.polsonumc.org
Context Background: We are located in the northwest corner of Montana in a town with a population of 6,000 and is located near a large lake, a river and mountains. Many of the people that live here are outdoor enthusiasts.

As we mentioned above, we are interested in 2 logos. One main logo for the church and a second logo for the mission team within our church...
MAIN LOGO: Using the either the full name (Polson United Methodist Church) the initials (PUMC) or a variation is fine.

Another possibility here is to use the flame but not the cross. (or a variation on the flame)
MISSION PARTNERS LOGO: If you want to start with main logo and get feedback on the look or direction before submitting the the mission partners logo, that is great. The focus of mission partners is to reach out to people in need on a local, regional, national and global level. The logo should inspire people to get involved, reach out, and make a difference.
