I want to create a logo and badges for a website called Ante Litem. Ante Litem means "before litigation." It will be a site where users can find a lawyer, rate lawyers, and lawyers can rate each other. The badges will be for:
First, "Ante Litem Verified." These are individuals who have sent us a picture of their bar card proving they are a licensed attorney who has no public grievances and are in good standing with the Bar Association.
Second, "Ante Litem Top Attorney." This will eventually be awarded to someone who scores a certain number through a peer review process. Only verified Ante Litem attorneys will be able to vote. So having "Top Rated by Peers" or "Top Peer Rated" would be good.
Third, "Client's Choice Award." This will be awarded to someone who has a 4.5 or above rating on their public profile.
I really like smart logos that incorporate a hidden meaning. The hidden arrow in FedEx is an example. I like the use of negative space. (Just type that into Google image search for examples.) I like clever logos that incorporate a hidden message or something that really bring the idea home.)
I would stay away from things that everyone else uses and uses too often - while not a hard and fast rule, things like a gavel, scales of justice etc are overused. Also, it needs to be recognizable eventually and not overly complicated. I think some of the best logos are fairly simple. For example, the big competitors in this space AVVO and Justia have extremely simple logos.
A winning logo and seal set will be clever, memorable, and use modern design.
The development site is located at http://legaldir.wpengine.com/ Your logo will likely give inspriation to the sites colors.
