Foremost, please keep in mind that not only will our logo be on our website which is a retail portal, but it will also be printed on various inconspicuous places on our shirts (i.e. 2-3" diameter on the sleeve or the back just under the collar). It is our brand/calling card, so it needs to clearly say "FollowMeTeez" when the logo is viewed at a smaller size. I think typography is BIG for us in the logo. Think "Kiehl's" logo or CocaCola in the sense that the typography is a large part of what people remember.
Including the ".com" is not necessary, unless your design works it in cohesively). The logo can certainly have multiple colors, but it also needs to be able to be tweaked to look good if it ever had to be printed in one color as well.
Also, we also own the domain FollowmeTs.com so feel free to toy with that version as a design as well if the "Z" in teez throws you off. We just may change our business name if the logo's right ;-) Ugh.
Our target audience/customer are/is individuals who are actively engaged in the online world (i.e. FB, Twitter, Tumblr, Pinterest, etc.), so please keep that in mind. Target audience is 18-35, style-conscious, trend-setting, and probably hanging out somewhere really cool right now.
Other things that may help in design: Big fan of retro-feel/fun, whimsical fonts/lettering (getfinch.com, milkinc.com, goodsie.com, Kiehl's, etc.). Also LOVE baseball/emblem style logos where the logo is self-contained within a circle or pentagon and things like that, but we're not married to that.
Thanks for playing and we look forward to the submissions and giving lots of feedback! Stoked.
P.S. Have fun! We don't take ourselves too seriously (our parent company name is Fallen Intellectual Media because we're both college dropouts). We're very committed to our brand and absolutely LOVE what we've seen from the 99designs community. We're noobs here, but we definitely don't want to waste anyone's time. Hoping the community here at 99designs comes through for us!
We found a few examples of some logos we like that my assist in a better design direction. We are looking for something that can be presented either as an emblem or plain text -- which means the typography needs to be on point and recognizable.
For example -
This logo for Miss Jessie's hair care product has been presented in two ways - with or without the emblem, We like the diversity this affords:
Original Logo: http://bit.ly/wX82H7
Logo Without the Emblem: http://bit.ly/wjM8Ag
Here are some designs by great 99designs designers (how many times can we say designs in one sentence), that we found whose shapes we dig:
Plain design but LOVE the colors and shape: http://bit.ly/xwZ2uz
Like the shape as well: http://bit.ly/yV2JC6
Hope this helps!
