Chapel Hill Public Library needs a new wordmark for a significant new, named service: The Circulator. Here's our style-
Our style is...
Chapel Hill Public Library's style is clean, simple, and modern. It is age and gender neutral. The color palette is vivid and energetic. The typography is accessible and contemporary. The graphics are open, asymmetrical, and somewhat abstract.
Our style reflects...
This style is a reflection of the library's mission: Sparking Curiosity. Inspiring Learning. Creating Connections. Our style aligns with our values of opportunity, hospitality, and stewardship. It supports the library's Service Pledge to be friendly, helpful, responsive, and engaged. We are focused on meeting people's needs and committed to making every visit delightful - whenever, wherever, and whyever people choose to visit us.
Our style is inspired by our users - our style is not inward-focused, self-referential, or library-centric.
Our style is not...
Our style is not intricate, illustrated, or cartoonish. It is not literal or bookish. It is not sarcastic, snarky, or trendy. It is not rustic or retro or ironic.
All secondary wordmarks and graphics evolve from and refer back to the library's primary wordmark, while addressing the specific program or service that the wordmark is being developed for. Secondaries are clearly recognizable as part of the unified CHPL brand. Colors are vivid and rely primarily on the three colors in the icon of our logo. Typography is consistent, and style is clean, simple, and modern.
The Circulator is CHPL's mobile, pop-up library service. This fun, flexible, 21st century library on wheels delivers activities and events throughout the community. Housed in a 16' stepvan, The Circulator offers up a menu of programs, from active story times for kids to game nights for grown ups. The goal of The Circulator is to encourage & support literacy, school success, and lifelong learning, and to engage the community wherever they are. The Circulator is set to launch in May 2017 and represents a major new service for the community.
