We are two software companies are partnering on a joint project called "DataFocus". The idea is to improve search engine accuracy by adding category information to it, and allowing users to zoom-in on the right information they are looking for.

The target audience is CTO and CIO types who have a mandate to improve search results for their organization.
The logo should be clean and professional. The original idea comes from the notion of "autofocus" in the camera world. Data Focus helps a searcher to find the information she is seeking quickly and clearly with confidence that it is accurate and comprehensive.
The term can be either "DataFocus" or "Data Focus" or even "Datafocus".
It is not necessary to use camera-tech iconography, but that might be a good place to start. Keep in mind that the customer are search engine geeks and large company executives. The right hemisphere of their brains may be atrophied from non-use.
We may want to animate the logo for video, so it should be visually striking and something that would look good going in- and out- of focus. If you are interested in doing a Flash or other animated version of the logo and have those skills, that would certainly work in your favor, so you should bring that up in your comments.
