Deep in a kitchen on Irma St in Austin, TX in early 2012, Chateau Nowhere was formed from members of several internationally touring groups seeking to blend their diverse backgrounds into a more original flavor of indie pop rock. Parisian native Philippe Beer-Gabel brings a broad array of sounds through pedals and alternate tunings providing an unnatural and surprisingly lush sound scape that has more tinges of electronic and experimental tones than the standard over-driven and jangly guitars permeating the current scene. He also is the only player in the USA of the Kantele, a Finnish instrument that can best be described as sounding like an ethereal amplified harp of sorts - certainly a unique pleasure for the ear. Providing the drive under all of this are bassist Will Krause from Austin, TX and drummer Zack Humphrey from Charlotte, NC, who’s math rock influences bounce between groovier Stereolab and Air influenced beats into Deerhoof and Hella inspired ferocity. Complementing these sounds are an assortment of rotating female singers and string players producing an uncharacteristically broad tonal range. Currently hard at work on their first EP, which is being mixed at French National Radio in Paris, Chateau Nowhere plans to break into the scene this Spring 2013.
