RealMarker - mark my worlds
We are a small international team working on a great mobile app that will allow people to express themselves in new ways.
With our app people can make 3D drawings 'in the real world' which can be seen by others immediately (using central web storage). We call these drawing 'real marks'. Initially freehand line-drawings can be made, having some resemblance with graffiti, but then in 3D!
It is an augmented reality (AR) app. This means that the mobile's screen shows the live camera image, on/in which the drawings appear at the exact spot they were created. By walking around and pointing the mobile's camera around you, or up in the sky, you explore the 3D drawings made by you and the others. Isn't that great!
And this is just the beginning ...
We believe in personal involvement & respect and will mention your name (and contact info if you wish) on the about pages of the mobile apps and website. We are looking for a designer that feels attracted to the idea of RealMarker.
Relatively young people owning a high end mobile phone (iPhone, Nexus, ...): 20 - 40 years.
We see a few different groups:
* People that love to express themselves in a graphic way: artists, architects, graphic designers, individual shop owner wishing to draw attention, cult groups, ...
* People that love to look at all this great work or use it to find their way.
* Everyone else just trying to make some 3D shape, just for fun.
Although high-end mobile phones are often guy toys, we hope to attract many women. That's why the logo must have feminine touches, but not too much.
But actually we don't know who will use it and how RealMarker is gonna end up. And this is one of the exiting things: We have planned to listen closely to the users and see where it all goes.
OBJECTS TO USE
Just an idea: Flag(s): often used as a marker on maps, game of golf, at the road, …. Perhaps combined with a Paintbrush.
HERE'S ANOTHER VERSION OF THE STORY
RealMarker is a mobile app (plus supporting web-service) with which users can create and share 3D drawings (initially a kind of graffiti) at a certain geo-location in the real world. So it is as if you are leaving your Marks in the Real world. The drawings are made visible with an augmented reality viewer. On this website (which is NOT ours) you can see examples of this: http://www.layar.com. So with the mobile app you can see your own drawings and those of others superimposed on a live video image of the real world; when you move the iPone, the drawings stay in place and appear to be part of the real world. This technique is called ‘augmented reality’ (AR), which you may look for on Google if you want to get a better idea. This is a kind of social networking service, or a kind of Twitter with 3D drawings. (Later we may allow users to create & place other types of multi-media objects: video, audio, images, text, ... This platform could potentially be used for tourism, real-world gaming, ... But for now it meant to be a fun, interesting and innovative service built in an elegant way.)
COMPETITOR or SIMILAR BUSINESS
http://www.layar.com is a company with an app for just viewing existing content. I do NOT like their style however! Here is an article about recent augmented reality (AR) apps in the mobile just to get an idea what it is: http://www.wired.com/magazine/2009/…lity_apps/ Again I do NOT like most of these styles. This Yelp thing is perhaps the only one with a kinda nice logo; but mine must be other style.
3D appearance, even in BW. An elegant illustration, with a natural/human/feminine touch. Something that tells or hints to the RealMarker story. The graphic must do well as a square icon, so its aspect ratio must be not far off 1.0. Smart but in a simple way. See "OTHER INFO" below.
Too obvious/clear reference to the globe ('Real' in RealMarker does refer to world, but it's the user's world and not the earth). Sharp abstract graphics. Complicated shapes/lines/… Playing with the RealMarker text/font: The graphic and name text must be separate.
Colors: tropical, earthy with a touch of feminine. Not all selected colors need to be used. The logo must also look fine in grayscale/BW. Then it is very important that the logo (it's graphic part) must be used as a square icon for the mobile app; so, this will be without the name! The complete logo (graphic, name + slogan), will be used on the website. In other words: The graphic part of the logo must be detachable/separate. (But of course both parts together must make a whole.) Style: Elegant, smart, positive, natural, fun; think of Art Nouveau designs but then in a slightly more modern way.
YOU MUST LOOK AT THE ATTACHMENT!
The text of this section is also found in the attached brief.xls (must be opened with Microsoft Excel and not a compatable program, otherwise important info will be missing). But there's more in there, so have a good look and open the ZIP-file.
Enjoy and hope to hear from you soon!
