I’m starting a new company that buys foreclosure properties and rehabilitates them into nice livable properties. Improving neighborhoods and making “dumps” a place where people want to live. I believe that the derogatory term property flipper assumes that someone is sweeping in and just taking advantage of market arbitrage—a scammer, remora, or vulture of sorts. This is not the image I’m looking for.

I’m looking for a company that you and your family would like to buy a house from. A company that neighbors smile when they see that a house is being rehabilitated by them, since they know it will enhance the neighborhood and will be built right. A high integrity company. A company that transforms houses. Values honesty and transparency.

The name of the new company is Redemption Real Estate. The name is important on several levels:

1. There is an element of redemption (a legal concept with foreclosures) to the previous owners.
2. There is an element of a new start to future buyers.
3. To me it has a powerful religious association.

The company is going to be based in Albany, Oregon, a small town of 50,0000 people close to Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon.
