I am a garden designer who does design, installation and maintenance for residential clients in San Francisco. All business is word of mouth between friends, neighbors and passersby. Most clients are lovely, kind people with families.
I am also trying to build up my Garden Maintenance Consultation business which come through high end Landscape Architects. See website: http://www.gardenhoodsf.com

If I could have chosen two industries the second would be Art and Design since what I do is not strictly labor. See my website: http://www.gardenhoodsf.com
The style guide was right on as far as being right in the middle of playful and sophisticated. I want to present myself as a serious gardener/designer (not the flighty "play in the dirt" type) especially with the new consulting clients. However, I have been in people's homes for over a decade and have a relationship with their families. Personable yet I take my work seriously. I like simple but not boring or too stuffy. I don't want it to look like I take myself too seriously (I do often have dirt on my face and smell like chicken manure!).
I do very much like the name of the company as the focus of the card.
I like the idea of a bold color--bright yellow? (gender neutral?) as the playful part (and the font the more serious part)--rather than relying on the standard greens of every other biz card in the industry. My old cards were mustard and fuschia.
I've attached what my husband I were messing around with for the new design and letterhead. We had a tiny black hummingbird on the card--trying to add some playfulness but it was too cute. The mustard and fuschia card is my old card and was fine... 10 years ago!!
I don't want or need my card to say much about me or the business. I just want it to have the biz name, my name and contact info.
I also like when my card can be identified on a board from a distance where you don't have to put it up to your face to read the fine print to know it is mine. Since I am a designer I want the card to have thoughtful design.
