IMPORTANT: Needs to be a professional book cover designed back, front, and spine. It needs to be beautiful and fit with the genre. This will be for ebook as well as print (I am unsure as to what the number of pages it will be when finished-I am around 200 pages in right now, I would assume somewhere around 300 pages when done-please make it so the spine can be adjusted in paperback format). It is a fantasy/adventure/young adult book (think Narnia, Percy Jackson, Harry Potter type book-make of it what you will)
Mood/Feel: Adventurous, fun, magical (not too dark or scary-appealing to all age groups)
Fonts: i want them to compliment each other (see attachments)
There will be four of the main characters on the front. Two of the four are more important, so their characters should be larger (the center point) than the other two (who will be on either side of the two) Beatrice (the narrator of the story) will be the center focus, as she is the most important. there is a giant monster hidden somewhere on the page. the background is of magical place (colorful-flowers, forests, waterfalls, mountains etc)
It is a minimalist style with lots of symbolism (symbolism would be books-specifically four books that have the symbols of Land (maybe a leaf), Sky (a cloud or burst of air), Water (a wave), and Time (hourglass) on them, a five-fold, glowing golden light, the dead mother of Beatrice who is a ghost-still beautiful-long brown flowing hair with emerald eyes-wearing purple dress maybe-she's a ghost, so do what you will(mother is pretty important throughout the novel-appearing in Beatrice's nightmares-her mother died), a kangaroo with purple glasses and a white lab coat on, small gopher with spectacles and bow tie, a late twenties man with a business suit on-he’s pale, thin, and has got short cut wavy brown hair-he looks very serious)-mess around with these as much as you want, but please include the four books, those are most important to the plot of the novel. all these things will be on the page somewhere (kind of like hide and seek for those looking (inspiration tagged below)
I really like the photos below because they are colorful and portray the characters in a quirky/cutesy type way and also have a lot of hidden symbolism in them. I like how the colors pop and really pull your eyes in.
Main Characters (listed from most important to least) ON FRONT COVER:
Beatrice (age 12): Short bobbed brown hair (chopped off by herself so looks pretty messy) and wears casual clothes (character is white) emerald eyes. on her wrist is a silver tattoo of a five-fold-maybe have her holding her wrist up in the air to show it. (she is reclusive and kind of quiet-due to her mother’s death. she takes up the role as leader in the novel. she is practical and does what she needs to do to keep the crew safe-as the novel progresses she becomes more open and happy-for she was still dealing with the death of her mother)
Reagan (age 12): long orange hair and wears more dressy clothes (maybe a knit sweater) and has a (IMPORTANT) purple book with silver etchings clutched tightly underneath her arm (character is white) blue eyes (she is kind of the princess of the novel. she is what you’d think of as a girly girl. she is always talking and has a say in everything-which sometimes gets annoying to the crew. she is sensitive and cares about everyone in the crew.)
Barnaby and Marly (equally as important)
Barnaby (age 11): wears a green collared shirt with tan trousers tucked into long white socks. he wears a red fanny pack with the words "lifeguard" on it (he's a nerdy kid so think nerd) his hair is brown and short and parted down the middle(he is white) he has brown eyes and wears large circular glasses (he is very nerdy, foolish, and clumsy. he gets hurt several times in the journey. he is brainy and quirky. he is funny and likes to play around rather then get the work done. he works in a bookstore)
Marly (age 12): long silver hair (down to her waist) in two french braids (really messy hair). she dresses like a hipster (has overalls on) she is white. she has blue eyes and her face is filled with LOTS of freckles. she wears a necklace with the sun on it (she is hip and street smart. Marly is an interesting hipster who is willing to help her friends-even when she just met them she was willing to help. she is serious and would do anything to help her friends. she was bullied when she was a kid so she is a little held back-especially when she confronts her ex-bully several times in the novel. she keeps to herself but is open with her close friends)
Obellius (he will be looming in the background -he is the antagonist of the novel)
A giant mess of a monster-a mix of many different creatures to create a terrifying beast. Most notable features would be his long horns atop his head, his huge hooves as feet, a long snaking tail like a dragon, huge wings like a bat, and his body is covered in all black fur. his eyes are red with hatred. he is scary.
***Totally open to suggestions.
I want there to be lots of color and magical scenery scattered around. it is a fantasy adventure novel and very fun to write, so i would like the cover to be fun too :)
Please avoid stock imagery ***
This will be (most likely) a three book series, so the designer will be contacted again for future designs.
