Here are 3 Ideas:
Idea #1: Two women who look exactly alike are staring at each other in surprise. They are 87 years old, have white hair and blue eyes. One wears a polka-dot dress, and the other a sweatshirt, though we don't need to see much of their bodies. They are doubles who have just met. You get the feeling from looking at them that although they look alike, their personalities are different. The one with the sweatshirt is unconventional, wild, adventurous, and the one with polka dots is more traditional. As far as emotion, Polka Dots could look wary, while Sweatshirt looks delighted. But the fact that they look exactly alike is key. (No dog in this illustration.) In the background, we could suggest the quaint town of Gibbons Corner. With this idea the TAGLINE has to be different: "They say everyone has a double."
Idea # 2: Just a floral background (like flowered wallpaper), with a cream label toward the top of the design containing the title, author. I will attach 2 designs I like from gift wrap to give an idea of what I think would make a nice book cover.
Idea #3: I'd like a cover very much like Miss Buncle's Book. (Originally I'd said it should be like the prequel, but now my agent informs me that if it's too close to that we may have "infringement" issues.
Main character: Carlotta, dignified, well-dressed, slim, stylish, youthful for her age, silver-haired, Caucasian woman, 81 years old. Carlotta is full of schemes and imagination.
Carlotta has a small white poodle--maybe should be on the cover since there was another dog on the cover of the prequel. Carlotta could be carrying the poodle affectionately under her arm. I don't want the impression that she is "getting rid of" the poodle.
The cover should communicate that this is a smart, funny book. (See my provided example of Miss Buncle's Book.)
Dimension of paperback: 8" x 5 1/4"
If we do background (similar to cover of Miss Buncle's Book), you need to know that the characters live in a quaint tourist town in New York State, so there are shop fronts, a lake (Lake Ontario) in the background. One of the important places is The Good Fortune Cafe, but I don't know if we need that much detail, the downtown area could just be "suggested."
Season: summer and fall
I am open to ideas and questions.
