The Thirteenth Circle
Chaz Allen McQuerrey, otherwise known as “Chaz Allen”, is an American poet based in Chattanooga, Tennessee. His journey with writing began at a very early age, but he did not venture into poetry until he was around 16. This is where he found his home in writing. Chaz’s poems are often wrapped in allegory, metaphor, and span a wide variety of subjects. This is often to convey a much deeper message than what one may expect to find on the surface alone.
The Thirteenth Circle is a collection of 68 poems aiming to provoke thought about one’s nature.
Semi-autobiographical in style, the author Chaz Allen, shares explicit details of his life and what inspired particular pieces. The poems within, often tied to metaphor and allegory, invite the reader to reach far past the surface. For poetry lovers everywhere, The Thirteenth Circle will undoubtedly elicit a truly emotional response.

I want the book to convey a certain darkness in its cover, without coming across as horror. The book should have a certain minimalism to it that isn't too noisy but at the same time, shows that it does take itself seriously in accordance with the material. I'm looking for a mix between illustration and design. I don't want the appearance to be that of a perfectly flat picture with perfect typography, but I also don't want a scribbled drawing. Think of how a painter would do it. Slightly dark, visceral, deeper than what's on the surface but enchanting and provocative in a way that draws you in. The cover should invoke a response enough to approach it without knowing what it is. Simply googling "Chaz Allen Art" should pull up my website and Instagram for reference to poems and imagery.

I'm not looking for particularly "bright" or "playful" colors. Probably reds, blacks (shades of), blues or purples maybe. Depends on the design but simple is usually better (especially for minimalistic designs). Not going to be a big fan of stock imagery, I'd rather the image be originally made. Font remains to be seen, but something minimal. Again, referencing work posted online may be of great help in understanding some of what I mean. Once a few designs are hashed out, details as to how we'll bring the elements together will be easier.
