While the book is based on true stories, it is written in more of a fiction/fantastical sense. It is not written as a typical memoir or "tell all."
This is the story of a girl/woman (me) who traipses into the worst situations and survives very well, even triumphs because she sees the world through loving eyes (rose-colored glasses). This is her gift and her protection.
My Whorizontal Life: An Escort's Tale
Book One: A Story Collection of The First sex Six Months
The true story of a naive, empathic young woman blinded by her own desire for fantasy and romance, fearful of the unkindness's of the 'real world', who dreams of true love and being an actress extraordinaire. As poverty and debt overwhelm her, she takes what she thinks will be a very limited leap into the underground work of escorting. But finds it is not so easy to get out. And maybe she doesn't want to?
This is a journey through the world of the sex industry to the heart of love.
Words I would use: Spiritual Love, Playful, Pink Love, Rose colored glasses, Living in Two Separate secret worlds: One colorful, timeless and lush, the other cold/ black and white.
The escort world is exactly the opposite of the stereotype we have of escorts and prostitution. Not porno or strippers or playboy.
The book invites the reader into the underground world as a place of fun and a celebration of sex and love and heightened life.
The world underground becomes her home where finally love, friendship and self-acceptance are found.
It is the Real world that is the black and white unkind place for her.
So she is living two separate secret lives and succeeds in this book (the first six months) because she sees through eyes of hope and love
The voice of the narrator is whimsical, naive, spiritual--a bit Dorothy in Oz but with humor, playful
There is a timelessness to her underground journey so I don't see realistic photos or images--more paintings or impressions or fonts like some of the covers and images below.
