We want to design a cover for our upcoming book titled "Unlocking Growth: How the new rules of marketing are changing the way companies grow." The book is by Sean Ellis and Morgan Brown.
The target audience is online and traditional marketers at startups and big companies who are hoping to make their company bigger by acquiring customers in a more cost effective manner. The secondary audience is other business leaders who want to find new ways to grow their company.
These people have probably read "Good to Great" by Jim Collins, books by Seth Godin and Malcolm Gladwell, as well as online sites like Hacker News (news.ycombinator.com), TechCrunch.com, and other technology, marketing, and startup websites and blogs.
The book will cover various new ways to acquire customers online, and focus on non-traditional marketing to do the job.
The book cover should feel modern and clean, but be compelling and eye catching. Unlocking Growth is the main title. The art should capture the idea of a business growing exponentially, adding lots of users and customers through these strategies.
Because the concept of grow is abstract, the cover probably shouldn't use any photos. Illustrations and typography is probably a better choice. Anything that symbolizes growth is ok to be considered.
The color scheme may or may not play off of growthhackers.com, or startup-marketing.com which is the site that inspired the book.
This book will likely sit in the business and marketing sections of a book store, and should look professional, appealing, and high quality.
The book is also a manifesto, and a call to action to change the way great products are marketed. It will feature case studies of companies like Uber, GitHub, Snapchat, Upworthy, Yelp, LinkedIn and others.
