Wie Brady Ridgway das erste buchcover Abenteuer antrat
Elements of Risk
Brady Ridgway's first love is writing. He has written articles for international magazines such as Soldier of Fortune, Professional Pilot in and Yachting Monthly. While he is not writing, he and his wife Nicky are pilots on contract for the United Nations stabilisation mission in Haiti.
This is his first novel.
Noah Stark always dreamed of moving to Prague. After twenty years service in the French Foreign Legion, he finally does. He should be living the dream; but he can't stay sober, his gambling is out of control and he's running out of money: fast.
Then a deal comes his way that's too good to be true. By the time he learns that he's sold the wrong stuff to the wrong people there's no going back; his girlfriend has been kidnapped and he's running for his life.
When he discovers that she's in the hands of the CIA, he agrees to work for them. He baits a trap for a Pakistani scientist. It fails. Then his aircraft is intercepted en-route to Iran. Thrown into an Afghan jail, Noah escapes and returns to Prague to seek revenge.

Designs zur Inspiration
This is what inspired me to create the brief. I am looking for something dramatic and eye catching.
This is the current design. My wife and I came up with it, and I like it, but criticisms include it being too tranquil, not enough colour, the diver in the bottom left is terrible and it looks like a medical or scientific book.

I am looking for a cover that shouts Adventure & Thriller. It should leave the potential reader in no doubt as to what the subject matter is. I have had a couple of ideas, none of which I have the talent to take any further and have uploaded those examples. The other idea is to have a diver wearing a rebreather approaching a sunken aircraft (HS125) in the dark, illuminating the aircraft with his torch - as per a scene in the book. The cover might include elements of a badge from the French Foreign Legion.
My original idea, but it lacks any punch. The diver image is from the web and is probably copyright. Would prefer a dark background, but don't know how to make the diver stand out.
A diver's badge from the French Foreign Legion. Probably not as featured, but perhaps an element of the design.
This image is from the web and probably copyright. Could be used as an element on the diver's demand valve.
Another idea (probably my favourite) is a diver in the dark illuminating the nose of an aircraft with his torch. Something like the one above, but darker and more vertical. The diver would have to be wearing a Buddy Inspiration rebreather or be in silhouette so that the equipment can't be identified. The radioactive symbol could be on the diver's demand valve if it is not too dark to see it. Here's the relevant passage from the book: "The vague shapes and shadows suddenly coalesced and I realised that I was looking at the nose of an aeroplane. It was just beneath my feet. My depth gauge showed one hundred and ninety metres. I was beyond the limit of the equipment, almost as deep as Denis’ deepest dive. I had to descend even further because the aeroplane was lying at an angle on the bottom, nose high.
As my eyes became accustomed to the gloom, I saw for the first time that the aeroplane was completely intact, resting on the muddy bottom. And the bottom was sharply inclined, plunging even further down; to depths beyond my reach. The buoy line went down further. It seemed to be snagged behind the wing.
I shone my torch on the nose and began playing it over the fuselage. The glass of the windshield flashed as the beam passed over it. Something looked out of place. Something protruding from the side window on the opposite side of the plane. I couldn’t make it out, so I moved over the nose towards it. As I neared I realised that it was a man. He was staring at me."
