Ignition Books, an imprint of Endpapers Press
We publish original and reissue print-on-demand and eBook fiction and nonfiction.
Ignition Books, an imprint of Endpapers Press, needs a new cover for the print-on-demand and eBook reissue editions of NEW YORK TIMES best-selling author Joe Weber’s RULES OF ENGAGEMENT. Let me thank you in advance for taking the time to participate in this contest and to read through ALL of this brief.
You can view the original covers for the work on Amazon here: http://amzn.com/B002B4YZG8.
Attached is a Word file containing front and back cover copy, as well as for the spine. This file also contains a brief summary of the novel’s plot and you can, of course, read the full reviews online.
Also take a look at the covers for Weber’s most recent reissues: http://amzn.com/B008DX4Y26 and http://amzn.com/B008DX4XEK.
The goal with this new cover would be for it to complement the most recent reissues. The art could feature an F-4 Phantom from the Vietnam era. It can be full art or silhouette but should look good in a smaller size as one would initially view it on Amazon and other online retailers. Since this is an established author, we want his name to be big and bold and readable when the cover is seen as in the smaller size. Or you can take your own approach.
PLEASE USE ONLY ART FROM ESTABLISHED STOCK ART AND PHOTO SITES. Do not simply grab a picture off the Internet and use it. We respect copyright and expect all designers to do the same. Please be sure to identify your art source clearly (e.g., istockphoto, bigstock, etc.). Also, please do not use the Marine Corps Globe & Anchor, since this is a registered trademark and requires permission to use.
Do not make the Ignition Books logo too big. Look at published books and note how the logo is really quite small. It should be visible, but not a major design element.
Also attached are templates from both CreateSpace and Lightning Source. You must deliver the final covers using two of these templates: one from CS and one from Lightning. Since I can’t predict which design software each designer may be using, I am attaching all formats available from CS and LS. You can choose to use the template that works best for you from each one. You will, however, have to use the barcode from the LS template on the cover for CS.
Additionally, we will need two versions of the front cover only for the eBook edition. These front panels need to have a 4:3 ratio and we will need two versions output as .jpg files: one at 800 high x 600 wide and the other at 1024 x 768.
Final covers for the POD should be delivered in either .ai format or .psd format, as well as in PDF format. For information related to the PDF specifications, please be sure to review the PDF guide here: http://www1.lightningsource.com/ops…nguide.pdf. Your final files MUST conform to these guidelines to work.
You should also review the cover specifications for CreateSpace here: https://www.createspace.com/Special…elines.jsp. Again, your final files MUST conform to these guidelines to work.
I have run a number of contests here for various eBook and POD covers, hence the very detailed brief. But nothing is more important than feedback. Submitting your designs earlier in the contest to allow for feedback will greatly increase your chances of success.
Last but not least, we are running a contest for a second Joe Weber novel, TARGETS OF OPPORTUNITY, simultaneously with this one. Consider coming up with a basic design (same title font and author font, say) that works for both and just changing the art.
