A half-million new cases of Alzheimer’s are diagnosed each year in the US, and nearly 6 million Americans are currently living with the disease. Compounding this tragedy is the fact that every person with Alzheimer’s Disease or dementia is a potential victim of elder financial abuse. Few people realize that nearly every elder financial abuse victim suffers from some cognitive impairment. The two scourges go hand in hand, each year leading to tens of thousands of lawsuits and billions of dollars in fraud, lost inheritance, and disinheritance.
Many of the issues this book covers are deeply painful but unavoidable for the millions of Americans struggling with cognitively impaired family members. It includes answers to questions such as: How do I remove my drug-addicted stepsister as trustee of my mom’s estate? What can I do to protect my grandfather with Alzheimer’s from a stepdaughter who got power of attorney and is now systematically draining his bank accounts? How do I find the best attorney to represent me in a case of unequal inheritance?
*Beneficiaries of trusts/estate heirs who may be facing conflict over a disputed estate - usually in middle age.
*Professionals (lawyers, doctors, nurses, dentists, financial planners, retail bankers).
