EDIT: I feel my book needs a tag line to clarify to readers what they're getting into. I added one with the Author, Title, and Blurb information. Also, as a reference here are three authors with similar writing styles, tones and intended audiences: Christopher Moore (author of Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal and A Dirty Job), Ransom Riggs (author of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children and Hollow City), and James Dashner (author of Maze Runner and The Kill Order). Thank you.
I'm looking for a cover design in paperback and digital formats for my upcoming novel titled: "Eat'em" The novel is Young Adult Fiction with dark comic undertones. The story chronicles a young man (Jacob) and his sidekick demon (Eat'em) as they go about trying to prevent a parasitic infection from bringing about the apocalypse.
Eat'em is a foot-tall imp-like demon with a prehensile tail and hedgehog-like quills on his head and spine. His posture and size are that of a classic imp. Though he interacts with the environment (mostly to scavenge Jolt Cola and pancake syrup), only Jacob is able to see him. Jacob is described as looking like a twenty to thirty-year-old Steve Buscemi. Jacob's most notable feature is that he has blood-red irises. Jacob is the reluctant hero, forced to fight people infected by the aforementioned parasite (think superhuman zombies but not rotting or decayed).
The most important element I want on the cover is the demon in some capacity, whether he is shown part or in whole, or represented in some way (such as a floating ice cream cone or other creative interpretation). Eat'em is NOT menacing. He is a comical character; cute, not scary.
The novel takes place in modern Arlington, Texas and the surrounding area. There are elements of melee action, brief gunplay, and police drama.
The cover can be realistic or simple, so long as it expresses the comical tone of the writing.
AUTHOR: Chase Webster
TAG LINE: "The pre-apocalyptic tale of a crimson-eyed killer, a sugar-addicted demon, and the parasitic infection only they can stop."
BLURB (for back cover): "The apocalypse draws near, humanity is almost entirely lost, only one person sees it coming. His name is Jacob Brook, and with the help of a foot-tall crimson-quilled demon named Eat'em, he will do anything in his power to prevent it. Unfortunately, as Jacob's the only one aware of the infection threatening humanity, police officer Lt. Hershel Bellecroix doesn't take Jacob's treatment of violence as a suitable virus-eradicating cure. Now, facing Texas Death Row and furthermore facing what might just be the end of the world, Jacob and Eat'em stand against time, man, and encroaching doom."
